• Using v3.1.4 of Backwpup. I experienced the following symptoms:
    (1) blank home page (no html generated) – however I could still logon with /wp-admin to enter my site
    (2) Pages/posts did not display images – following the image links resulted in 403 error
    (3) Media library did not display thumbnails or images.

Root folder contained a 0 length index.html file; home page worked (without images) when I renamed the index.html file ( I dont know if this file was created by backwpup ).

Uploads folder contained a .donotbackup and .htaccess with the same timestamp. The .donotbackup was definitely created by Backwpup as it said “Backwpup will not backup folders… when this file is inside.

Why did backwpup create the .donotbackup and .htaccess ?? Did it also create the 0 length index.html file?

Site is now working normally (as far as I know).

  • The will be created for securing the acsses to folders with backups logs or temp files. Noremely the will not be created directly in the uploads folder!
Did you have change a path in the configuration of BackWPup?

Thanks for a wonderful plugin and speedy support response.

Folders to store backups in is currently set as follows:
    /home/xxxxxxx/public_html/yyyyyyyy/administrator/backups/

I don’t think I have ever set it to point to the uploads folder. However I suppose it is possible that it was set to point to the uploads folder for a brief period during a test.

Maybe you could add a test to prevent/warn against doing this by accident.

    All is now working normally.

some folder will be tested before the files will be written. I will add some more to test. THat can be the log or temp folder to se BackWPup > Settings > Tab: Information
