I have just installed the plugin on this site. Have used it previously on other sites with no problems at all. On this site, the images don’t appear in the admin area of the plugin (it says “No entries found” in the Alt/Description column and no thumbnails show up in the list). However on the right hand size of the Bulk Actions part of the page, it says 12 items. Also the filenames are listed in the Preview Image section. So they are there, but just not showing up in Admin so I can’t alter the Alt/Title/Description. I tried “create new thumbnails” but it says “no images selected”. I also tried “Scan Folder for new images” but it says “0 pictures added”. Also, on the page itself, it shows up the full size images and no gallery (which I specified).

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

@mgrist – Problems like this can sometimes occur due to a conflict on your site. I’d like to have you try a few things. Please try deactivating all of your plugins, clearing your browser cache (and site caches if you are using a caching plugin), then reactivating the NextGEN Gallery plugin(s)?

If this fixes the problem it was likely one of the deactivated plugins causing the issue. Now, retrace your steps activating each plugin (one at a time) and re-checking to see if the problem returns. If it does then that last activated plugin was probably the one. Keep reactivating the plugins as it is also best to keep checking after each plugin, sometimes there may be more than one plugin on a site that will create an issue. If you do find one (or more) plugins causing this problem we would greatly appreciate your feedback on them so the developers may address them as soon as they can.

Also to note, in rare cases, it may be the theme itself that is causing a conflict so while you have just the NextGEN plugin activated you might consider temporarily switching to one of the WordPress Twenty series themes and see if this corrects the issue as well.

If the problem still persists after all of this we would still want to know, even more so, as we will still want to sort out the issue and may need additional details.

    Thanks!

Thanks for your reply Cais. I followed all of these steps but the problem persisted, even when all plugins were deactivated and even when I changed to twenty thirteen theme.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can try.
If it helps I may be able to provide you with a temporary user login.
    Cheers

Update. While the page listed is not OK as regards displaying the gallery, the admin area now shows the gallery thumbnails fine. So that’s progress. I deleted and re-added the gallery but on the public page the images are still full sized.

@mgrist – Yes, your thumbnails are very large; and, they appear to have been created at that size based on the page source and the image dimensions for the “thumbnails”

You can set thumbnail sizes under Gallery > Other Options > Thumbnail Options. This is what controls the automatic generation of thumbnails when you upload images. You can override these when displaying the gallery in the customizations accordion panel of the Insert Gallery Window (IGW) modal, please check both and make certain the specific inserted display’s thumbnail dimensions are what you expect.

    Thanks!

    – Cais.

PS: If everything looks fine, please share the generated shortcode for the display on the page you shared.

Thank you! I reset the thumbnail size and now it works fine. Really appreciate your help. Here is what the system generated on my source code view:

    [ngg_images source=”galleries” container_ids=”1″ display_type=”photocrati-nextgen_basic_thumbnails” override_thumbnail_settings=”0″ thumbnail_width=”240″ thumbnail_height=”160″ thumbnail_crop=”1″ images_per_page=”20″ number_of_columns=”0″ ajax_pagination=”0″ show_all_in_lightbox=”0″ use_imagebrowser_effect=”0″ show_slideshow_link=”0″ slideshow_link_text=”[Show slideshow]” order_by=”sortorder” order_direction=”ASC” returns=”included” maximum_entity_count=”500″]
