• I upgraded yesterday and all seemed fine. Today, however, most (but not all) of my images are showing in the media library but without any actual image – so details are there, but just the blue box with question mark instead of the picture.

I can’t see any pattern in which have gone and which haven’t. The images on the front page are still there, though if you click through to the actual post they aren’t with the post. (I use a front presentation page with Parabola).

There is another element, perhaps. I’d been trying to set up a carousel of images using Shortcodes Ultimate plug-in (though not using any of the photos that are now missing). I’ve deleted this plug-in just in case, but no difference.

    The site is campfiremag.co.uk

  • I am having this issue also.. Categories and other parts of websites are not working also. WORDPRESS please help … this is an issues with 3.8.1

Also what is best way to go back to 3.8

    thanks

I know this doesn’t help with your problem, rebeccadearden. But I’m also suddenly having problems with images not displaying throughout my website. And my site was also recently updated to 3.8.1.

Same here, and I keep getting IGNORED by these so called “moderators”.

Are you guys getting the HTTP Error when uploading pictures to Media Library too?

Go to put a picture in a post, if it doesn’t show up, click HTML, and look at the Height and Width, does it say 1 and 1? That’s what it’s doing to me… I figured it out, but now it’s HUGE. If you’re having this problem go to Settings -> Media -> Uncheck “Crop thumbnail to exact dimensions (normally thumbnails are proportional)”

You should be able to now upload pictures into the media library, and insert them into a post, BUT they’re going to be thousand dimensions by thousand dimensions… I just gotta try and figure out how to stop it!

And I’ll probably get yelled at, and you will too Ashleyschroeder and Tonyanytime because we need to “start our own thread”… but when we do, it gets ignored. I’ve been at this for almost a week now!

I have a theory (though bear in mind I’m a bobble-hatted amateur). There’s an option in media settings to store images in folders based on month and year. I ticked that a while back and then changed my mind some time later. That means that some images would have been ‘loose’ in the uploads folder on the server and some in folders. It might explain why some, but not all, of my images disappeared after the upgrade – though I can’t exactly say why!!

It doesn’t appear to be anything to do with incompatible plug-ins or with the theme.

I’ve reloaded all the lost images and added them back into posts (a seven-hour job) and they seem to be working now, but it isn’t an answer for anyone with lots of posts and images.

The “so called moderators” (yep, I’m one) well… moderate the forum. That’s the role but we do help when and where we can.

The reason you need to start your own thread is simple: this topic belongs to the user rebeccadearden. Unless you are attempting to help the original poster then you are not helping. Worst case? You are attempting to take over someone elses topic and that’s Just Not Cool?.

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Forum_Welcome#Where_To_Post

You may have the same symptoms but also have a totally different setup. It’s not necessarily the same problem and also why you should open your own topic.

If you want to assist rebeccadearden then that’s amazingly cool. Please do and go for it, that’s encouraged. ??

If you want to use this topic to focus on your problem than that’s not considerate to that user. You would not like being ignored that way so please don’t do it to others.

Okay… and that’s exactly what I was doing. I was giving a solution to what SOUNDED like the same problem I was having… how is that not helping? Where the heck is someone to go for help when she’s been having the same problem for a week without anyone helping anyone? Then you try to help someone out and it’s considered “Just not cool”? You guys all say the same exact thing. I’m just getting frustrated that so many people are having these problems yet nothing is being done but the same standard protocol “change your theme, undo all plugins, contact host”. It has nothing to do with any of that apparently. We’re all not using the same host, the same theme, the same plugins….

And Jan, I’m not trying to be mean towards you, just a frustrated user.

Try this just to make sure the image references in the media library are not wrong.

This is using Firefox, Chrome may be slightly different.

    – Put your mouse over one of the broken images.
    – Right click while on top of that image
    – Select View Image

Does the image load or give you a 404 file not found?

If it does do a 404 can you share with us the image URL?

    (@rebeccadearden)

I’ve uploaded all my images again and deleted the ones that were blue-boxing, but I did try what you suggest before doing that and I got a 404 message. Have a look at my theory in the previous post. Do you think this might be where the problem lies?

Although I’ve laboriously re uploaded and attached all my images (because I couldn’t leave the site looking so shabby), I’m nervous it will happen again.

The reason I was wondering about the URL is because I wanted to know if the thumbnail was what was broken.

For example on my install (It’s multisite and the URL may be totally different) this is an example of a thumbnail.

    https://your-url-here/files/2013/12/some-image-100x100.jpg

If it’s the thumbnail that is 404’ing for some reason then try installing and running this plugin.

    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/

It will regenerate ALL of your plugins and that may take a while. But it works and years ago I had to run it myself.

If that fixes it for in the media library you then you can delete that plugin afterwards.

    Thread Starter rebeccadearden

    (@rebeccadearden)

Thanks, Jan. I can’t check that now, I’m afraid, because – as I say – I’ve re=uploaded and deleted all the faulty images. Perhaps someone else having this issue could try this and let us know.

I’m doubtful, though, because I tried to view the image in all its forms, not just thumbnail. Going to the image attachment page returned a 404 too.

    Gotcha. I missed that.

If this does occur again and you can post a link to the 404’ed image then maybe we can get to the bottom of it. Hopefully it won’t happen again. ??
