• Recently we started having an issue where images won’t show on our web pages. The issue is random. Instead of the image showing it will just be an X. If you right click on the X and choose “show picture”, the image will show. There is also a slider running on the home page and sometimes the images won’t show in the slider, sometimes the slider won’t load. I have done many Google searches and tried many things to fix this with no success. It’s crazy because it just started all of a sudden, it wasn’t after an upgrade or anything like that.

We are running WP 4.7.5 with Academica Pro theme. We also are running WP SuperCache, although we were running a different cache plugin when this issue started. The server is a Windows 2012 server running IIS 8.5 and PHP 5.6. It is also running Wincache, although it wasn’t running Wincache when this issue started.

At this point I don’t know if the problem is with WP, the theme, IIS, the server or what. Nothing I have tried has fixed the issue. Also, the images are not large, they have all been optimized for the web with Photoshop.

Does anyone have any suggestions on this?? Thanks.

Please provide a link to a page on your site where we can see this. Thanks.

Also, we have checked the site with IE, Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox. The issue has happened intermittently with all browsers, but seems to show up more in Firefox for some reason.

It’s not happening for me, now. If it’s intermittent, it’s most likely an issue with your hosting, so be sure to ping their tech support about it.

It’s not hosted. It’s on our server.

Check the system logs for when this is happening. Are you choking on memory, network, or other bottlenecks or throwing any errors? (I could tell you how better to diagnose this on Linux, but Windows is a mystery/terror to me.)

FYI, if you upgrade from 5.6 to PHP 7, your site will run faster.

Yeah we have gone through the logs. There is nothing unusual. The server is an IBM X3500 M4 with a Xeon 12-core 2.6GHz processor. It has 32GB of RAM.

Thanks for the tip on PHP. We will look at doing that.
