Images Not Showing in Facebook Share

not sure what is happening here; I indeed do not see an og:image tag on the homepage, but when loading the it with AO disabled (by adding the ?ao_noptirocket=1 querystring), there still is no og:image tag to be found in the HTML source either I’m afraid lweedman?

now off course this is the homepage so that might simply not have an social share image defined (although I guess it should)

But when looking at a page (post), I do see an og:image tag on e.g. https://www.peachythemagazine.com/style/readers-favorites-splurge-or-steal-5/ both without and with AO active?

It’s still an issue when sharing posts even though, as you noted, posts do have an og:image tag. In the example in your screenshot, the image name in the og:image tag is https://www.peachythemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/readers-favorites-081724.jpg. I’m wondering if it is because the image has info added before it by Shortpixel (bolded below) and therefore Facebook does not recognize it as the same image?

hmmm, the original image isn’t available any more, I get a 404, so that could be an explanation?

That one only shows if you go to: https://sp-ao.shortpixel.ai/client/to_auto,q_glossy,ret_img,w_1024/https://www.peachythemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/readers-favorites-081724.jpg. That is what I think the problem is… Facebook is not recognizing the optimized image but I don’t know how to override the renaming or override featured images being optimized.

Looking at the HTML source of https://www.peachythemagazine.com/style/readers-favorites-splurge-or-steal-5/?ao_noptirocket=1 (so the non-autoptimized version of the page), I see the og:image URL is https://www.peachythemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/readers-favorites-081724.jpg and that file indeed does not exist. As a result, the unoptimized version of that page indeed does not get a preview image on FB either.

this is also the case for other pages, e.g.;

So based on this (limited) test, it seems the root cause is the url’s for the featured images (og:image meta tag) being wrong, with or without Autoptimize?
