I’ve downloaded the simple exclude plugin to exclude categories from the frontpage. Because I wanted to move some categories to differnt pages. Both worked fine. The only problem is that when I move the categories to a differnt page the images stop showing. No matter if I host them on WP or on an image host like imageshack.

How can I fix that? Website in question is: https://blog.whenlovefalls.com/ and when you click on resources you do see text but no images in the entry.

    EDIT
It seems that he also removed the download link from that entry. And I want to get that back aswell.

Based on https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/406069?replies=6 and https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/397117?replies=8 I think this is a known issue.

What version of the plugin are you using?

@remap I’m the author of the Simple Exclude plugin. The issue replied to by ipsenu was fixed in version 2.2.9 of the plugin. Please make sure you are on the latest version.

I’ve trying to understand something you wrote about the image not working on the new pages. Are you using the WordPress gallery shortcodes? Or how are these pages displaying categories items? The Simply Exclude plugin generally deal with 4 areas of information: is_home, is_archive, is_feed and is_search. outside of that if you for example have a Page template where you run get_posts or something to pull in Categories. This is not under control of the Simply Exclude plugin. Would like to help but need more information. Thanks.

I used the plugin: page link to https://txfx.net/wordpress-plugins/page-links-to/ in order to link my categories to a static page I’ve created.

Right now I’m using the WordPress gallery shortcodes for the image. But before that I used one of the codes provided by imageshack when I hosted my image there.

I’m using version 1.7.8 which was the latest I could find.

Oh right 1.7.8. Sorry wrong plugin.

I’m not sure how the page-link-to plugin works or if it effects the way the Simply Exclude plugin works. Again as I mentioned in the previous message the SE plugin works under the 4 is_* actions.

When I look at your site and go to the Resources link https://blog.whenlovefalls.com/?cat=5 this is a category archive page. So in the Simply Exclude admin page for categories what do you have setup? It really might help to have admin access to your site if possible.

Ok did some more research on this. From your site in the footer I saw you were using the Simply Red theme from ThemeLab. It’s free so I downloaded it and applied it to a local WP 3.0 site I’m working on. This site is NOT running the Simply Exclude plugin by the way.

I setup the sidebar widgets to include Categories, Tag Cloud and Archive. Just like your site I disabled permalinks. This will provide the nice URL like your example Resources page /?cat=5

I setup a Post. I added a sentence to the post body. I then added some images from my drive and inserted the default gallery shortcode ‘[gallery] below the simple sentence. I then added the Post to a dummy category. When I view the front end of the site the dummy category is listed in the sidebar.

When I click on the sidebar category link it take me to the category archive page. Normally this will be a listing of Posts in that category. In my case this just shows the one dummy post I’ve entered. You know what the gallery was not displayed. But if I click on the title of the post I’m taken to the single view page. Here the gallery does display.

    My thoughts:
When viewing an archive (or even the home page) more themes call the WP theme function ‘the_excerpt()’. At one time this function called the PHP function strip_tags which removed all HTML from the content. I thought this was corrected to allow certain HTML codes.

    Back to your site:
If we go back to your Resources page https://blog.whenlovefalls.com/?cat=5 again your shortcode (I’m assuming it is there does not display. Also you noted the download link is not there ot is not a link anymore. This is typical of the PHP strip_tags() function the link/anchor text remains. At this point if you click on the title of the one post listed you will be taken to this page https://blog.whenlovefalls.com/?p=21 Here the image is displayed and the download link is working.

So I guess the open issue is why is the WP function the_excerpt removing the shortcode the link html? Again, this was reproduced on a new WP 3.0 install and not running the expected culprit Simply Exclude plugin.

Thanks for the reply. I switched my theme and then the images did show up.

    Lovely blog there. Great work!
