  • I have no idea, but check if your image file contains spaces or other signs in the filename. Try with plain text as image name.

I am having the same problem on a fresh install of WP (3.9.1) and NextGen 2.0.65. Uploading .jpg files with only letters in the name and small (68kb). Using 2014 theme and no other plugins installed yet. Here are my server settings:

Operating System : Linux (32 Bit)
    Server : Apache
    Memory usage : 5.58 MByte
    MYSQL Version : 5.5.36-34.2-log
    SQL Mode : Not set
    PHP Version : 5.3.24
    PHP Safe Mode : Off
PHP Allow URL fopen : On
    PHP Memory Limit : 64
PHP Max Upload Size : 32M
PHP Max Post Size : 33M
    PCRE Backtracking Limit : 1000000
PHP Max Script Execute Time : 30s
    PHP Exif support : Yes ( V1.4 )
    PHP IPTC support : Yes
    PHP XML support : Yes

    Graphic Library

GD Version : bundled (2.0.34 compatible)
    FreeType Support : Yes
    FreeType Linkage : with freetype
    T1Lib Support : No
    GIF Read Support : Yes
    GIF Create Support : Yes
    JPEG Support : Yes
    PNG Support : Yes
    WBMP Support : Yes
    XPM Support : No
    XBM Support : Yes
JIS-mapped Japanese Font Support : No

Well this is strange. I went into the general settings to set things up like I normally do and now it works. I have a feeling it was most likely setting Permalinks to Post Name that fixed things. This is what I changed:

    General Settings –
    Timezone: Denver
    Week starts on: Sunday

    Discussion –
    deselected Allow link notifications
deselected Allow people to post comments

    Permalinks –
    set to Post Name

Same problem as audreatelkamp and Olivia86 with photos not uploading on a new install. I can create a gallery, but can’t add a picture. Doesn’t matter what method (browse or drag and drop), or browser (IE or Chrome).

    Server settings:

Operating System : Linux (32 Bit)
    Server : Apache
    Memory usage : 7.06 MByte
    MYSQL Version : 5.5.33-log
    SQL Mode : Not set
    PHP Version : 5.2.17
    PHP Safe Mode : Off
PHP Allow URL fopen : On
    PHP Memory Limit : 64
PHP Max Upload Size : 32M
PHP Max Post Size : 33M
    PCRE Backtracking Limit : 500000
PHP Max Script Execute Time : 30s
    PHP Exif support : Yes ( V1.4 )
    PHP IPTC support : Yes
    PHP XML support : Yes

    Graphic Library
GD Version : bundled (2.0.34 compatible)
    FreeType Support : Yes
    FreeType Linkage : with freetype
    T1Lib Support : No
    GIF Read Support : Yes
    GIF Create Support : Yes
    JPG Support : Yes
    PNG Support : Yes
    WBMP Support : Yes
    XPM Support : No
    XBM Support : Yes
JIS-mapped Japanese Font Support : No

I tried the changes that seemed to make it work for audreatelkamp:

Permalinks – set to Post Name
    Result: no change

    Discussion –
    deselected Allow link notifications
deselected Allow people to post comments
Result: success. after that change I was able to upload through the Gallery interface.

However–I did make another change and I failed to re-test after that. After making the Permalinks change, but before making the Discussion settings change, I manually uploaded a file (via FTP) into an empty gallery. Then I opened that gallery and did a “scan for new images”. That worked.

@olivia86 – There is not much to go on there, have you tried checking for plugin conflicts … or ensuring your WordPress Permalinks are not set to the default (numeric) structure?

@kengun – Thanks for offering your idea.

@audreatelkamp – Glad to read things are working. Unfortunately there are some very popular web hosting services where you need to set Permalinks to something other than the default numeric structure to get NextGEN Gallery to work correctly (it’s still on our to-do list but we suspect it may require an extensive refactoring to correct).

@challinan – Are you still seeing the upload issue when using the ATP and/or Gallery > Add Gallery / Images? The discussion settings also have never played a part in how images would be uploaded so that would be a very new issue and one that would be best served as its own topic.

    Thanks!
