Recently I have noticed that my images are being rotated 90 degrees in my posts. The image appears in the right orientation on the computer, phone (where it was taken) and when you click on the image and view it.

In the post however, it’s rotated 90 degrees to the left.

This is extremely irritating. Is there a setting hiding somewhere that was enabled by an upgrade?

Here is a post that shows this problem:Nanohawk Post

  • Thank you so much for this info! I had the same problem and was stumped. I’ll review the plugin too.

I realize this thread has been resolved but…..I am having the same problem and none of what is mentioned above solves my issues. I upload pictures from my Samsung Galaxy to Google picasa. Then download from Picasa to my PC and then upload to my wordpress. When the picture loads into the media library, it is rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise. If I edit the picture I can make it look correct on the front page of the blog, but if you click on the picture to enlarge it, it is now rotated 90 degrees clockwise. Any suggestions?

I also wanted a solution to this issue, and after reading Dave Perrett’s excellent post on EXIF Orientation values here I tried several plugins but Fix Image Rotation works!
I appreciate the EXIF data has been lost, but that is not an issue with our clients.

I believe WordPress is rotating the images. The better part is that in my installation, Media Library cannot rotate ANY picture. I’m thinking the genius coders at Word Press are going to need to take a hard look at Media Library and it’s many shortcomings. Yikes!
