Hi people so I am still not been able to figure this one out. Why do my images appear as a slideshow when I want them to show up as a gallery?

This is what it looks like when I am in the admin part:

    https://i66.tinypic.com/fxcv3t.jpg

As you can see 4 images in a row, looks lovely. When I click on publish the 4 images show up as a slideshow not as a gallery with 4 rows.

I do not want a slideshow, I would like to see a gallery. Can somebody please advise? Thank you.

    Hello @ajphoto,
Why are you using shortcodes? Just add the gallery from the Add Media button of the post/page editor.

After clicking Add Media on the left sidebar click on Create Gallery tab. Select the images and click Create a new gallery button at the bottom of the window.

On the right sidebar you will find gallery options. You can change the gallery type(Thumbnail Grid, Tiled Mosaic, Square Tiled, Circles, Title Columns, Slideshow) from the Type drop-down. Once that’s done click Insert gallery.

    Hope this helps ??

Hi Otpidusprime, I did not consciously ad short codes. Let me follow exactly what you say. Will report back to you in 5 mins ??

Ok I clicked create new gallery but I do not have TYPE drop down, see this screen capture:

    Very weird.

Sorry about this. Do you have a suggestion how I can select the type of gallery without that dropdown? Or do you know how I can bring that dropdown back into the user interface?

Update your WordPress to the latest version. Seems like you are using an old version.
You will see a refresh icon on the top-bar of your WordPress Dashboard-click on that. If you cannot find it, just go here: YOURSITE.COM/wp-admin/update-core.php, replace YOURSITE.COM with your actual site address.

You can also follow this guide to update: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Updating_WordPress

Thanks for that. It seems I am using the latest version:

Should I force an update/re-install maybe?

4.7.4 is the latest version indeed so force update is not required.
    Try re-installing…
Because i have that option, here’s the screenshot: https://prnt.sc/f0riyi

But be careful while re-installing. Backup all your contents first.

    Also, before re-installing…
    Try this plugin:

Ok, so next thing to try is a new install of WordPress

    Thank you for the help!

It’s because the plugin wont affect the default settings.

Try reinstalling and see if you can get the option to work.
