Images sideways (coincided with styling issues)

    Hi everyone,

    I’ve been troubleshooting a few issues with my site that started occurring after some plugin and wordpress updates. The weirdest issue is that some of my images are suddenly sideways – both in the posts and in the media library. On the images in question, the option to edit is also missing.

    I just deactivated the Hummingbird plugin because the latest update broke a lot of the styling/theme customizations on my site, and troubleshooting the settings there didn’t work. I was hoping this image issue would also go back to normal, but now it doesn’t seem to be related? I also tried deactivating Smush, but that didn’t seem to be the problem.

    At this point, I have no idea what to try next. I really don’t want to manually re-upload the photos if I can avoid it. I’d like to figure out the root of the problem. Any ideas?

  • Hi @emmelinegb! It sounds like there could be a theme or plugin conflict. I would recommend disabling all plugins and using one of the default themes (twenty-). If this fixes the issue you can then enable the plugins one-by-one to see which one is causing the issue.

    If you find that it is a specific plugin causing the issue, I would then recommend reaching out to the developers and support community for that plugin or theme for more specific support.

    Just realized I forgot to update this thread! Anyways, I started to disable plugins like Roxy suggested, but then I noticed a similarity between all the affected photos. I usually edit and export my photos in Canva, but my co-blogger sometimes would upload unedited photos (aka smartphone photos) and these were the images being affected. Something to do with the orientation of the phone, and my site not adjusting it properly. I started to troubleshoot this, but it seemed like I should edit those photos anyways for better optimization. So, in the end, re-uploading seemed like the best solution after all. Oh well!
