Based on searching the forum, it seems that I am not the only one with the problem of images not appearing in the media library or on the page/post, in spite of the fact that the files exist in wp-content. The issues started with the upgrade to 4.6 or 4.6.1. I was having problems with my network connection when I upgraded and I was working with the host company. Bottom line all my plugins disappeared and then the theme disappeared. I was looking at blank home page! I have been rebuilding the website, but can’t get most of the images in posts or pages to show, including the NextGen Gallery images. All the plugins are up to date. The host company says that this is WordPress problem. The only thing I can think of is to restore a backup pre-4.6.1.

The image links to the files are correct, just no picture. I tried to re-insert the image in a post but no luck. Any suggestions? I was unable to find a solution on this website.

  • Hi,

By default NextGEN gallery plugin saved all its image in to wp-content/gallery unless you changed it, make sure you have all the image in that directory, if you don’t have that directory make sure you get that from your backup and restore it. It may fix the issue. ??

All the image are in the gallery directory, but …
Example for NextGen Gallery Images that won’t show:

The link on the webpage is:
    /wp-content/gallery/2014-breakfast-fly-in/IMG_5064.jpg

    The actual files:
    thumbs sub-directory: /wp-content/gallery/2014-breakfast-fly-in/thumbs/thumbs_IMG_5064.jpg
    dynamic sub-directory: /wp-content/gallery/2014-breakfast-fly-in/dynamic/IMG_5064-nggid03378-ngg0dyn-91×68-00f0w010c011r110f110r010t010.jpg
    or
    /wp-content/gallery/2014-breakfast-fly-in/dynamic/IMG_5064.jpg-nggid03378-ngg0dyn-91×68-00f0w010c011r110f110r010t010.jpg

Take your pick? Other pictures with thumbnails don’t have any “dynamic” files for the “2014-breakfast-fly-in” folder. No wonder there is a disconnect!

Example for an image in a page that won’t show and were uploaded through Media Library:

    Link on webpage is:
    /wordpress/?attachment_id=20

The actual file is located at:
    /wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/UpAndAway.jpg

I have no way of telling whether this indirect link refers to the real file. Nonetheless, the image does not show in the Media Library – only a blank square

My conclusion is that the gallery directory got corrupted, perhaps from the loss and reinstall of NextGen. I have no idea why the page image fails.

I also discovered that all my original plugins are still there, WordPress just lost any connection to them, so I had to reinstall.

I think full repair of this site is a lost cause.

I restored a previous back up (WP 4.3) and the problem still persist. I have spent too much time and given up. I will delete all images that don’t show and reinstall some of them. This item is NOT resolved, but is closed.
