Images thumbs not showing on portfolio pages on desktop

Hi there!

I’m a bit rusty since it has been years since I maintained a wp site.

I’m helping someone upload images and noticed that the image thumbs on the category/portfolio pages fail to show even tho they load. I know they are properly loaded bc when you resize the width of the browser down, it shows all the images once it is in a single column. But for some reason, when the browser is resized to a width typical of laptop the images that shift over into the second or third column suddenly disappear from view. I notice this on all the portfolio pages, whether its humor or business or any other page.

Please note: I wasn’t able to add a new project at first. I suspected it was because wordfence was saying I was operating on a very old and unsupported version of php. However when i logged into the hosting, it says i was on php7. when I returned to wordpress, suddenly i was able to add new projects. not sure if this is relevant but this bug didn’t appear until after this incident.
