    Hello,
    1. I want to add images to a gallery which are 1368 x 1916px but when I upload them to the gallery they are being resized much smaller. I’ve checked in Gallery > Other Options > Image Options and it is showing those dimensions I’ve specified. But when I go to > Manage Galleries the images got resized to 857 x 1200. This is too small. Why are they not the size I uploaded?
    2. is there a feature in the lightbox (or Pro) to increase the magnification of each image, when I click on the image it is still not large enough. These jpegs were originally informational PDFs that contain lots of text. they are hard to read. perhaps if we can get the images to be their true dimensions this request won’t be needed?
    3. is there a way to add images to a gallery via the WordPress media gallery? Because I am successfully able to upload the larger file size I want.
    here is login.

    thank you for your help,
    Nancy

  • Hi @nancy-bagnato

    First of all:
Please, remove the admin information from this forum since it’s not secure and anyone can see this information.

NextGen Gallery will resize your photos to the desired dimensions
Please, if possible, I will advise you to check this documentation: Image sizes and resolutions https://www.imagely.com/docs/image-sizes-and-resolutions/
Unless you are going to sell your photographs as “Digital downloads” we don’t recommend large image sizes.

I quote, “For the best performance we recommend resizing your images to no larger than 1920×1280. It’s important that you export your images from your photo editing software with the sRGB color profile”.

You can, of course, set up to “No” the option “Automatically resize images after upload” and NextGen will not resize your photograph.

Nevertheless, NextGen Gallery has not been created to share PDF files.
So in this particular case, you might like to search for another plugin.

    Workaround
Another option will be to create an Album display and separated galleries. Each gallery will represent a PDF thumbnail; then you can add the link to the real PDF using the option “Link to page” https://www.imagely.com/link-to-page/

Of course, this will take time, and you might need to create a redirect.
If you like, you can share this option as a feature request here:

    Hello,
Thank you for your help and I appreciate the options you have offered.

I do not see how I can edit the support ticket to remove the admin login credentials. Would you be able to tell me how?

Regarding the PDFs, I uploaded as jpegs so there is no need to treat them as PDFs but I do want them large enough to better read the text. When I set “no” to resizing, it uploads the images to the size I have specified but on the page and in the lightbox, the images do not appear to be that specified size – they are much smaller. And I don’t see and area to adjust the lightbox dimensions.

    Thanks again,
    Nancy

    Hi @nancy-bagnato,

First of all, please change immediately your site’s credentials as those are public available for anyone.

Normally, I am able to edit my own forum replies by clicking on the “Edit” button from the bottom right of that reply but I think that could be because I am using a Participant user role. Unfortunately, we can’t edit or remove your own post and all that we can do is to report it for the forum moderators so they could edit it for you.

As for your question about the PDF images. I have inspected the mentioned PDF Gallery page and I see that the images are actually 1300×1900 when you are opening any image in Fancybox but Fancybox will of course restrict the image’s height to make sure that it will fit 100% of your monitor’s height and it will set an auto width for the image. All the lightboxes that we have in NextGen are performing exactly the same and none of them will offer a possibility to zoom or have the image bigger than 100% of your screen’s height.

This being said, you may be interested in disabling the lightbox effect so you could get the original image file loaded directly. To do so, please navigate to “Gallery -> Other Options -> Lightbox Effects” and choose “None” for “What lightbox would you like to use?”

NextGen cannot load images from WordPress media directly. But even if it would – the lightbox effect would restrict the image’s size according to the screen’s height as well.

    Hope this helps

    @nancy-bagnato This.

First of all, please change immediately your site’s credentials as those are public available for anyone.

Never offer anyone admin access to your site. If an author offered to accept that access (they did not, I’m just explaining) this would have been the reply to them.

I’ve deleted your offer to login to your user’s site. I’m am 100% sure you mean well but please never ask for credentials. I have flagged your account temporarily. That just means that your post will need to be approved and @ notifications from you will not work.

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/guidelines/#the-bad-stuff

Now for the why: The internet is a wonderful place full of very nice people and a few very bad ones. I’m sure everyone here is very nice however, by giving some ones keys to your house you are trusting they wont steal anything. Likewise the person who takes the keys is now responsible for the house FOREVER.

If something was to go wrong, then you the author may well legally become liable for damages, which they would not normally have been as their software is provided without warranty.

Please be aware that repeatedly asking for credentials will result in us asking you to repeatedly stop before escalating up to the plugins team.

    Followed by this.

There are many ways to get information you need and accessing the user’s site is not one of them. That’s going too far.

    You get the idea.

Volunteer support is not easy. But these forums need to a safe place for all users, experienced or new. Accessing their system that way is a short cut that will get you into real trouble in these forums.

But again, they did not ask for that. They’d get into real trouble had they asked or accepted. ??

    Jan,
As you might know, I don’t believe I’ve ever posted for help here and if I did it might have been only once. I am new to this forum. I typically engage in opening support tickets with the admins of the WordPress themes I use. These are open to the public but do offer the option to “mark as private”. And a support admin will typically ask for login credentials to troubleshoot.

So when I offered login, (which was terribly stupid of me) I really had forgotten where I was posting. Granted, this is lame of me and I truly do apologize. I guess I just was not thinking! I’m not here to offer support and technical advice to others, I don’t have the skill level. And I would never ask for someone else’s login – I agree it is too much of a responsibility to have this access. So I do apologize for the concerns I’ve created.

Thank you for taking the time to explain.

Thanks, Jan for taking care and editing the post that contained the credentials.

@nancy-bagnato, I will just go ahead and mark this as resolved since I think that I have extensively explained the case in my post from above.
