Hi, I am a total newb at setting this up, so I’m trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong!

I have set up a bucket at Dreamhost to contain static images for my site. Set up an alias – static.mysite.com. Switched bucket to public, turned “CDN Support” on.

Installed both DreamObjects and DreamSpeed plugins. Under Dreamspeed
*set up my path settings to be static.mysite.com
*checked “copy file urls to Dreamhost as they are uploaded….”
*checked “point file urls to Dreamspeed/DNS alias…”

When I upload a new file into the media library it does upload to my bucket and points the file to my bucket – static.mysite.com/uploads/2014/09/filename.jpg

However it just creates a blank thumbnail and I am not able to access the image via a browser. When I use Transmit to look around my buckets I see the image there in the correct file/directory structure and I can download it.

Is this related to the plugin or a Dreamhost issue? I hope I’m doing this right!

    What’s the real URL?

I tried uploading a few different images but it doesn’t display them.

Okay so the issue isn’t the plugin, nor is it (technically) dreamhost.

Does the NON customized URL work? That is the one that looks like https://ipstenu-images.objects.dreamhost.com/…. ?

So that’s the problem. The CDN for dreamobjects isn’t set up right. Did you just create the alias in your Panel?

No, I created it 3 days ago. (That’s what you mean?)

Or did you mean I *where* I created the alias?
I created the alias after setting up the bucket, went to “change settings” next to the bucket and made the alias there (static.clothhabit.com). Permissions: public, CDN support: ON.

There’s a little checkbox next to the alias “use CDN”. I checked this, waited 24 hours, tried uploading. Then unchecked, waited 24 hours and tried again. Same problem. (Not sure what the checkbox does anyway!)

I can’t create an alias in my DNS because it tells me the cname for “static” already exists. So I assumed that doing it through the bucket was fine. But under my DNS entries, it doesn’t list “static”.

    Helpful? Amy

Kind of… but the issue is the CDN with the name isn’t working.

So that’s why the images are broken. They DID upload, but the CDN alias isn’t working and they can’t display. I would open a ticket with DH support and I’m pretty sure we can fix it on that end (I’m at home on my other computer, or I’d pop on and see if it was obvious and easy to fix now).

    Alright, will do! Thanks!

Ugh, I just went back to open a ticket, looked over my dns and realized that I am using Cloudflare. Have been using it for a few months and forgot. That is probably the issue?

Probably not. The DNS is separate from CloudFlare (which should only impact your www. namespace, and not the special subdomain you picked for DreamObjects).

    Ok figured it out!

Just to follow up on this, in case anyone else tries the same thing… The issue was CloudFlare.

I had to add a cname in my CloudFlare account to point directly to the DreamObjects (non-alias) bucket. After a couple of hours it was all working!
