• After moving my WordPress installation to a new hosting, some of my images stopped showing. It affected only images with polish diacritic letters in the name of the file (the guys on polish forum didn’t help me unfortunately). I saw, using Total Commander, that polish letters changed to some other letters. I renamed the files back to their proper names, but images still don’t show.

If I upload the image once again, it works (still with polish lettrs in the name).I don’t even have to insert the image, just upload it to the gallery.

However, such a solution isn’t good for me,as I have a lot of images across my site.

Here is one of the pages with both working and not working images:

I am 100% sure that files are in the proper folders and have correct names.

What did the file names look like before you ‘corrected’ them? Something like this, m%C4%99ski-%C5%BCel-pod-prysznic-192x300.png?

    It looked something like this
    m??ski-??el-pod-prysznic-192×300.png

Ah… that is a file-system level encoding issue, I believe. What is the OS of the server? This may take some research…

I’m sorry but I’m not sure what you are asking about. How can I check it?

What operating system is your web server? Windows? Linux or BSD? If Windows, which one? If Linux or BSD, Debian? Centos? OpenBSD? What?

I have this same kinda issue, i just transfer my site to a different hosting. Im not sure if this would work but if you have your old site backed up, go into the cpanel and create a new directory using your old database. most likely its a rewritable issue thats causing this so check with your hosting and ask them to make sure the chmod777 is working correctly.

The operating system is Linux Debian 6.0 64bit

I don’t think this is not going to be easy to fix, and since I don’t use diacritics is English I have no experience with them.

Looks like this can go wrong in several places, from filesystem charset to (s)FTP transfers. Have you talked to your host?
