• My blog – overthebalcony.com – was working fine until today. I have uploaded images and video without problems (the site has been live for a week now) but today, suddenly, it won’t allow me to upload. It has given me both “File Failed to Upload” and an HTTP error on different occassions.

As this is necessary to continue, if anyone knows how to fix this, PLEASE HELP!!!

  • Have you checked that you haven’t filled up your disk space on your hosting account?

yup, I have plenty of disk space left.

What browser? What OS? Have you updated Flash recently?

I’ve used IE7 and the most recent Firefox. I updated flash to make sure I have the most recent version.

Have you tried the “Browser Uploader”? When you click the Add Media button, towards the top of that is a little blurb about problems and a link to use the Browser Uploader instead.

If you use it, does anything improve?

    Same problem.

    Browser Uploader won’t upload too.

    IE, Opera, FF, Crome…

Same problem for me perhaps? No uploads from any of the three different computers I’ve tried. IE6, IE7, FF. Neither flash or browser upload works. Updated flash on all computers.

I don’t really see an error message though. All that happens is there is no display of the picture (except sometimes the browser upload freezes). The gallery says a picture has been uploaded but can not display an image. Trying to post any picture on a page, the system goes through the motions, but the image can not be seen in any browser. Obviously there is no image but wordpress has fooled itself into believing so.

On a different site on the same web hotel i have an older version of wordpress running. File uploading works without a hitch.

Found my problem. Turned out the upload worked perfectly, only not to the correct folder. Everything was in /wp-content/ instead of /wp-content/uploads.

How to fix it? Read this step-by-step instruction:

Was this in any way helpful for you guys or was my problem way off topic?

    Everything in options are OK.

If I Browse files by FTP, I see that pictures are uploaded normaly, but thumbnails are not created – that’s the reason of error: “Maximum execution time of 45 seconds exceeded in www/wp-includes/plugin.php on line 274”

Also, I tried install NextGen Gallery plugin, and it’s work perfect – no problems with creating thumbnails…

    P.S. Sorry for my English.

Some time ago I built an upload and thumbnail creator program in php and placed it on my site (in a web hotel). I found out that pictures over a certain size (in pixels, not file size I believe) didn’t get thumbnails created for them. The reason was that the memory limit for the php-processes was too small and it couldn’t handle the transformation for larger pics.

So using smaller pictures worked for me.

But does that make any sense if you get the NextGen Gallery plugin to work? And if it works perfect doesn’t that solve your problem? (I haven’t tried the plugin so I may be making faulty assumptions.)

    >>And if it works perfect doesn’t that solve your problem?
    No.

Same thing with audio and video. I think, loader does not determine when a file has been loaded to server.

Same issue here with PDF files and movie files.

    See: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/208154?replies=3

The files I am trying to upload are far less (in file size) than any limit set by php.ini. The files are getting uploaded to the wp-content/uploads/YEAR/MONTH directory, but the uploader (Flash or browser) just stops after that. There’s no way to add the uploaded media to a post.

My issue was resolved by re-downloading 2.6.2 and performing the upgrade again. It seems that the 2.6.2 files I previously downloaded had some older files mixed in.
