Images/some styles missing in Safari only after site move

FYI – All images/styling were working fine in Safari before I “moved” the site to the root level.

In fact, the styling is wrong for me on Chrome as well (probably you have caches?), and what I see you still have images/css URL https://roothealthclinic.com/testsite/wp-content/themes/roothealth/library/images/apple-icon-touch.png and it gives an error. Please have a look at moving web site procedure one more time to check if you’ve performed all required steps.

You should search for: roothealthclinic.com/testsite
and replace it with roothealthclinic.com

I’m looking in Safari’s error console and I’m seeing lots of errors that say “GET https://filepath/wp/filename.xxx 404 (Not Found)”. There are css, js, jpg, and png files in the list. They are in that dir but Safari is not finding them.

Ope! I just added that last comment and hadn’t seen the replies. Thanks for the advice – I’ll see what I can do… ??

Is it okay for me to go into phpMyAdmin and just do a search for “/testsite/” and replace with “/” in the wp_posts table of my WP database? Would this mess up other things? Many of my links are relative to the root and don’t have the “https://roothealthclinic.com” part in them.

Thanks for the links, etc. I ended up using the WordPress Duplicator plugin and it worked great. Here’s a great explanation: Instructions on Moving WordPress sites with Duplicator.

After all of that I may have found my problem from my previous failed migration. I had set my “/testsite/” dir to password protect during development and forgotten to remove it. That may have been the problem in retrospect – Doh! Either way, Duplicator is added to my bag of tricks.

In regards to doing a find/replace directly in PhpMyAdmin, it’s better to use the script I linked to because it will find and replace the string you search for in serialized strings or objects in the correct manner by replacing the lengths of strings within them. Otherwise, the serialized string or object would basically break and you may lose the data stored in there. Usually this happens with widgets in WP.

Migration plugins like Duplicator are great because they also take care of any references in the database to the old URL.

Make sure to always go to https://example.com/wp-admin/options-permalink.php to reset permalinks anytime the site URL changes.
