Last week I updated the WS Plugin to 1.12.0 from 1.11.?

What impact can I expect the update to have on our overall WS content? Specifically around Google’s Search and Discovery. Our stories have enjoyed a healthy fan engagement and over the weekend, we say literally no traffic from our stories.

I realize there are 100’s of variables for content to get presented to an audience, so I am cautious to point the finger at the plugin, however it is the last, and only, thing I did that would be different since the last update.

Wanted to ask if you have seen a reduction in traffic to stories using 1.12?

Also, you may already know about this, when I am in the editor and want to go to a template page that I saved from one of my stories, the plugin crashed and I get an error msg saying to ‘Reload’.

Thank you for this amazing plugin. It truly has been a game-changer for us.

  • Hi there, @terrymiddleton ! It looks like some of your stories were affected by an issue we identified with the last 1.12.0 release where Stories with empty CTA image page attachments caused AMP validation errors. It will be fixed in the upcoming release soon, so please standby.

Regarding the template issue you mentioned, this will be resolved in the next release as well.

    Thanks!

@luckynasan – thank you so much for this. I am so glad I asked.

So, what did I do incorrectly to cause the error? I will certainly dive in and make sure to not to do this in the future.

Can you explain (or point me in the right direction) about the empty CTA image page attachment? I understand CTA, Image, and Page Attachment, but how can I identify when I have missed it on our stories?

@luckynasan Ah, I see. I dove into the empy CTA-image and in fact remember several times removing the image for a couple reasons.

1.) it looked like the image was simply the background image that I used on the page
2.) Not fully knowing what image should go there, I thought it was looking for an icon of sorts like the link icon that is the default.

To correct, should I simply add an image to the CTA-image, and what are the specs for that CTA-image.

@terrymiddleton You did everything you were supposed to. ?? When you add a page attachment there is a field where the link icon image can be set. This is a bug on our end, and we’ll be sure to keep you posted with any updates.

@terrymiddleton Hi there! Web Stories for WordPress has released version 1.13.0 which includes the fixes for the issues you were encountering.

Could you please update to the latest version of Web Stories and confirm on your end as well? We’ll mark this topic as resolved, but feel free to open a new support topic if you continue to encounter issues or reopen this topic, and we’ll be happy to assist. Thank you!

@luckynasan Thank you. I did update the plugin and works great. I ran the WS URL through the AMP Validator and got a ‘Pass’.

    Thank you.
