• For an unknown reason, all our website’s widgets were deleted. We have now tried to import the widgets from an earlier backup of our site and we get this error message:

Import data could not be read. Please try a different file.

Any idea of what we can do?

The message means there is either is no data in the file or the data could not be decoded from JSON format. The file is empty, corrupt or otherwise not valid and cannot be imported. Make sure it is a valid .wie file generated by the plugin.

You could also test to see if there is a site problem by making a test export and trying to import it. If you get the same error when importing that new test export file then try deactivating all plugins in case one is interfering with the import.

You might want to check in Appearance > Widgets in the Inactive Widgets area at the bottom-left to see if your missing widgets are there or restore a full website backup from your host to get them back.
