• I have a directory structure with images and sub-directories. There are several thousand images, and dozens of directories.

I’d like to import this structure, including all images and the folder (album) layout, into NextGen Gallery. However, the ‘import folder’ function imports the contents of one directory- period. No recursion, no creation of sub-albums.

Is there a way to make this work e.g.: a third party plugin? Would a zip of the directory structure and images do what I want (i.e.: import images along with their album/directory structure)?

If not, why not? This seems like an incredibly obvious requirement to anyone who manages more than a few dozen images…

@kelly64 – Our Import functionality is a single folder at a time but the idea of a recursive import is a very good one, please feel free to share your thoughts and ideas on it as a Feature Request here: https://nextgen-gallery.com/feature-voting/

    Thanks!

I voted in the list (although my new option didn’t appear after I voted). That said, I’m assuming from your reply that there is currently no way to recursively import a directory structure as albums along with all enclosed images?

That means I have to manually import about 100 folders and about 2000 images they contain. Ouch. Migrating from the old Gallery2 is starting to look far more painful than I expected.

@kelly64 – If you upload your album/gallery folder hierarchy structure to your site then use the Import Folder operations (one at a time) it should go relatively quickly. Obviously it will still take some time but I would estimate (depending on size of images etc.) no more than two hours once all of the images are uploaded via FTP.

Although re-building the same structure will also require you change the gallery path field under Gallery > Image options to match your hierarchy as needed, too.
