    Thanks for a nice plugin.

I seem to have some challenges with import and export with regards to character sets and special characters (French, Danish, etc). Does your plugin set characters sets, or leave that to WordPress defaults?
Also, rich text seems to be a challenge. How does the import/export handle rich text? I seem to get errors when trying to import an export file with FAQs with rich text (HTML).
Last: Please consider some kind of support for Markdown in exports. This would make the FAQs fully interoperable with, for example, qnamaker.ai.

BTW: You own FAQ on import and export needs updating.

  • Hi John,

For the export to CSV, the character set shouldn’t be changed. We’ve tested this with accented letters and it seems to work fine (the accented letters show correctly when opened in a spreadsheet program like Excel). Do you know what character set your site and database are set to?

There is certain HTML that might not work in the import. You can use basic stuff like links, bold tags, etc., but if you’re trying to structure stuff with divs, etc., you might run into trouble. And it is indeed possible that, if you use a lot of HTML, it will export, but not import. That’s because the query and the parsing is different for the import. The import process needs to be more strict.

Could you please let us know what you meant by our own FAQ?

    Hi,

Thanks for the info. Everything should be UTF-8, but some of the data I tested with may have been “polluted” somewhere on the way. Stuff I have issues with is things like X3 and ?.

Please check the import and export info in your documentation here:

    Hi John,

I just tried putting those two exact characters (X3 and ?) in an answer for an FAQ, and then I exported the FAQs to spreadsheet, and those characters show correctly in the spreadsheet. It sounds like it could be something on your end affecting either the export functionality itself or at least the character set used. Would you be able to please send us an email at [email protected] and include the spreadsheet that you get when you do an export?
