Import failing with 408 Error

I am trying to move my wordpress.com website to godaddy hosted site. I have been trying to import the xml files since 6hrs with no success. Any file, no matter what size, fails with a 408 request timed out error. Godaddy customer care has brushed it off saying WordPress issue. What are my workaround options? I am have wordpress managed hosting plan from godaddy, so I didnt have to do any setup except for the import.
Any help would be appreciated.
