Import from a WordPress.com export file (WXR) into a www.ads-software.com blog failed. What I did:

    • created an export file on wordpress.com
    • downloaded the file on my computer
    • went to the admin in my new www.ads-software.com site
    • run import and answered all questions with it
    • selected the file to import
    • Nothing happened except a white screen!
I tried this again, but even after 12 hours waiting nothing was imported. Nothing of my old pages and posts.
I asked my host for help, but they couldn’t help me.
How can I solve this? Try another plugin?

Are you moving site from wordpress.COM to self hosted www.ads-software.com site?

If so, please try reviewing these resources: – https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-to-a-self-hosted-wordpress-site/

    @t-p, thanks for your reply

    Yes! I am moving from wordpress.com to (self-hosted) www.ads-software.com.
What you tell me is exactly what I already did.
I run the www.ads-software.com install process and made a new page in the new self-hosted site to inform my visitors.

After the installation process and after installing some plugins I tried to import in my new self-hosted site the export file from my old wordpress.com site, step by step like this:
    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Importing_Content#WordPress

    But with no result…

I would also discuss the problem with your hosting provider’s tech.

I did. They said they could’t help me.

Nothing happened except a white screen!

A blank white page means that PHP is crashing. This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including: (1) Bad theme (2) Bad plugin (3) Bad install/upgrade (4) you exhausted the memory limit (5) It could also mean that there is an issue with your web hosting server.
    – 1 and 2 are more common (typically due to a function conflict introduced by a plugin or theme).
    – Since the problem can be caused by any number of things, check the error logs on your server for a more specific error message. If you need help locating them, ask your hosting provider to help you with that.
    – If you cannot find error logs or if you don’t find any helpful info in them, try Enabling debugging
    – Also, try reviewing this useful Codex: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Common_WordPress_Errors#The_White_Screen_of_Death

    Thanks!

    Thank you!

I read the information in the codex carefully, and logged into Admin.
First I de-activated plugins, except WP Import.
Then I suddenly thought the problem could be caused by this: importing all of my media.
While importing, this time I unchecked the box ‘import media’. That resolved my problem! Probably I had too many of them.
Still I want my media. But that will be the next challenge.

Glad you got it sorted ??

It’s a bug that should be reported and fixed so that others don’t have to spend time wondering what’s broken when they encounter the same issue.
