• Hi there,

I’ve read through many posts where this issue was encountered, but haven’t identified the actual fix that was used (for example: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/squarespacecom)
The extract I get from squarespace has a .xml.gz extension: “partial-snapshot-12.22.13-062433.xml.gz”

I extract the .xml file using WinRar and try to import to my wordpress blog using a “Movable Type and TypePad” tool, and also using the WordPress Import tool. The wordpress import tool gives me the following error: “Sorry, there has been an error.
This does not appear to be a WXR file, missing/invalid WXR version number”

While the Movable Type and TypePad option simply says “All done. Have fun!”, but no posts are created.

The .XML file is ~4mb, so there should definitely be data there.

Also, when I try to open and read the .xml file, I get errors indicating that it is not in Unicode UTF-8.

I’m stuck here… any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks in advance.

Looks like it’s all sorted out now. I was downloading the wrong format from squarespace.

The place you want to download the export from is in your Journal, then Configuration, then scroll to the very bottom and select “Data Export” (this is SS version 5, by the way).

This will extract everything as a .txt file, which can be uploaded using the Movable Type and Typepad plugins.
