I’ve been trying to update the categories and listings on my site. I uploaded a new CSV to update the post categories (see attached). Headers are the same, every post should have valid category numbers for their post_category and default category, and the website even gives me a validation saying that they’ve been updated:

    https://prnt.sc/CRyP8SXer4aT

Something is wonky here though, since some listings now have no categories while the others have not changed their categories or just have random ones that are not the ones I selected in my csv.

I’m attaching a .xlsx file with only the categories to try to illustrate the listings with wrong categories being uploaded. The headers and category numbers are derived from exports I did today.

Here’s an example of listings with no categories:

    https://prnt.sc/CzHzhoo7PUub

For an example of a wrong listing, “Wilson Temp Control” was assigned category #161, which should be “Controls”:

    https://prnt.sc/vGh-1q8t77g3

But after uploading the CSV, it actually got assigned the category “Countertops” which is #162.

    https://prnt.sc/GOan1Qb31g-n

They’re right next to each other here:

    https://prnt.sc/B63CK08cH4X-

I feel like a lot of these inconsistencies are only a number or so over. It’s really weird for it to be reading the data incorrectly like that.

    Thanks in advanced.

This is a known issue. Excel is not suitable to create and edit CSV files as it adds characters that break the import process.

You must use Open Office or Libre Office as explained in our docs.

You can always re-open it or if you need more assistance, you could also create a support ticket on our website, where you can send us the CSV files for us to test them on our side if needed.

Just opening a file with pre-existing formatting error will not solve the problem. You need to make sure the formatting is correct.

For example, the CSV that you attached appear to have the default category column, but not the category column… why is that?

You must have the category column too.

Oh, that file was sended for a client. I was looking for the example file but I couldn’t find it, do you have a link to download it? Thanks
