We have been importing CSV files successfully for years.
Currently, trying to import as we have done previously, only some of the events get imported. Approximately 5 events are brought in from a CSV file with 18 events.
We have not changed the file format.
None of the missing items are in Draft or Ignored.
The Dashboard message after import just reports a few events brought in, not all of them. In the last try (of several) it reported
    “Import complete!
1 new event was imported. 4 existing events were updated.”

I have enabled sharing with support in the Troubleshooting tab.

HERE’S A SAMPLE OF THE CSV CONTENT
    Event Name,Event Start Date,Event Start Time,Event Category,Venue Name
    Aft./Eve. Services ,3/16/2022,6:40PM,Services,VCJC

  • Good evening @jkengineer

    Thank you for reaching out.
We are sorry to hear that your events are not importing as expected!

I would love to help out the best I can.
Within the limits of what’s allowed by the forum’s regulations of course. So bear with me.

First off, I am noticing that you are still using our original designs (aka views version 1). Why is this important you ask?

Because we no longer support issues related to those views since last August.
In fact, we are only a few weeks away from completely removing that code from the plugin.

For that reason, I would highly recommend testing out the new updated design on a staging site as soon as possible:

But back to the issue at hand, we have received reports of some CSV imports “timing out”, meaning that some entries are skipped when the job takes “too long” (according to the server in charge). So we are definitely looking into this and will issue a bug fix once we are able to isolate the issue. We’ll report back here as soon as we do.

In the meantime, as a workaround, I have found that running the same import several times usually results in all entries being imported (not ideal, I know).

Thank you for including a CSV sample, but without the complete file, we are unable to use one line for troubleshooting purposes.

And thank you also for enabling the share system information option.
Unfortunately, this option only kicks in for our premium add-on customers.

    Hang in there!
    Geoff

Oh and one last thing some users have reported this issue being related to PHP 8.0 (in case you recently upgraded the version on your server).

    Hi @geoffbel
    I am not on php8.
I actually did try multiple imports of the file. It may have incremented the number of imports, but it did not get all of them.
I assume the display V1 vs V2 issues are not related to my CSV import issue. In fact, I tried V2 and got really strange monthly calendar displays. See https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/month-display-shows-dots-not-events/

Here’s the CSV content after I sorted it and removed suspended events:

    Event Name,Event Start Date,Event Start Time,Event Category,Venue Name

    Shabbos Ends,3/5/2022,6:36PM,Candles,VCJC

    Thanks for your help.

This is one line in the CSV file:
Morning Services – Megillah Reading following Shacharit,3/17/2022,7:30AM,Services,VCJC

Shows as two in my message above.

Thank you for your reply @jkengineer

I will run a few tests and get back to you.
In the meantime, can you tell me if you have any events that are sitting in the “ignored” events tab in wp-admin?

Finally, I have some good news regarding the dot issue in V2, we are working on a fix for that.

    Hang in there!

There are 8 events in the ignored section. Their dates range from 2018 to 2021.

Good to hear about the dot fix!

(I did not see your reply in a timely manner – I often don’t get the notifications, despite having checked the box.)

    (@jkengineer)

I am continuing to have problems. I reduced the CSV contents to leave only the events that did not import. I keep getting existing events updated.
Eventually I was reduced to 3 events, one on 3/25, and two on 3/26. The preview of the import showed all three, but did not bring in the 3/25.
Here is the 3 event contents:
    Shabbos Candles,3/25/2022,6:55PM,Candles,VCJC
    Shabbos Ends,3/26/2022,7:59PM,Candles,VCJC
    Morning Services,3/26/2022,8:45AM,Services,VCJC

I then made a single event CSV using the 3/25 event. Trying to import that causes the preview function to show the spinner and no preview. So something is clearly wrong, but I cannot see anything different about that line.

    I have version 5.14.0.1 installed.

I have manually input the event, but the import issue really needs to be addressed.

I have exactly the same problem when importing from my CSV file. Worked perfectly fine a couple of months ago, now only importing 5 at a time (in a CSV file with aprox. 45 events).

Now manually changing CSV files so it only has 5 new rows at a time, but that is very annoying (making 9 different csv files…).

When can a fix be expected?

    Hi @robg94

Can you check your Ignored folder and see if the events are appearing there?

Do you see any error messages or are events simply not importing?

    Let me know!

    Thanks,
    Jaime

It may have been a while since the thread was active, but the users are waiting for you to give us a solution.

I had the same issue. In my case I noticed the “Event name” cannot be the same for each event.

    Thread Starter JKEngineer

    (@jkengineer)

We do imports monthly. We had the same problem again now. 5 events get imported. If they are not removed from the CSV before trying again, those 5 get updated and the rest are ignored.
I just went through the exercise of importing the file, deleting the first 5 events, and repeating that until all events were imported.
We have 2.5.2 of The Events Calendar.
The cPanel indications were not consistent. It appears that the site may have been on PHP 8. I just downgraded to PHP 7.4. (This means I incorrectly reported my PHP version previously.)

Is it possible that the PHP version was also affecting the issues I have with your new display showing the dots version on desktop?

I won’t have any more events to import until next month. I may try some dummy events. If so, I will report back.

    Thread Starter JKEngineer

    (@jkengineer)

    Update.
I edited our source CSV file to make all the events 6/1/2022. There were no events yet listed for 6/1/2022. This made 28 events to import. I uploaded the file and the import reported that 22 events were imported and briefly indicated that 1 event was updated.
In looking at the events, I see that there were duplicates created by my assigning a single date to everything, so I think 22 is correct.

Looks like it was indeed a PHP problem.
