    Hello,

When I use the import function under “products” I see a field named “productURL” when I select my external URL from the imported csv file nothing seems to happen. What does this field do and where should I see it?

    Thank you in advance

    Hi there!

In the Column Header Reference it says the following about the product_url column:

Use if the product is sold on another site. Used by External/Affiliate products only.

You can follow this link to read more about the External/Affiliate Product type, or sit back and watch this video primer instead.

    Hi @eastofwest

Thank you for your reply. I think I didn’t explain myself well enough. When I import an affiliate product, using the import function, I drag the field “external url” from my csv to the “productURL” field. I then fill in the rest of the fields and complete the import. The product I just imported seems to appear as a simple product, but I want this to be an affiliate product. How can I change this?

Test 1 is a manually added product with type affiliate. Test 2 is the imported product which appears as a simple product

I’m a bit lost still – are you using the built-in CSV import/export mechanism or a 3rd party plugin?

With the built-in product CSV import/export, I’d suggest the best way to start is to create one complete product of your own, export that product into a CSV file, and use the result as a template for your other products.

For instance, below is an image of the result of doing that on a sandbox site. Excess columns have been removed, leaving only the minimum required ones. Notice the “Type” column – it’s where the type of product is specified, and in this case it has a value “external”.

Copy the values above into your own spreadsheet, export it as a CSV, and import it into your store to see how if it works for you too.

If we’re still not on the same page, perhaps include a few screenshots to illustrate. You can upload screenshots to your media library and share the link with us, or use a service like https://droplr.com/ https://www.getcloudapp.com/ to share a link to the image file.
