• Hi all,

    I’d like to export all data (posts/comments/tags/etc) from one installation of WordPress to a new one located on a different server.

    I performed an export from the old server and it gave me a ~4mb XML file.

    I installed WordPress on the new server, a completely brand new installation and database. I then went to install the WordPress Importer plugin (v0.4) and proceeded to upload the XML file. As per usual, it prompted me to map usernames which I did and it started doing the actual import.

    At the end of the process WordPress displayed the following:

    =================================
    Import WordPress
    Failed to import post tag
    Failed to import post tag
    Failed to import post tag
    All done. Have fun!

    Remember to update the passwords and roles of imported users.
    =================================

    The “Failed to import post tag” is what scares me.

    Taking a look at the stats on the WordPress dashboard on both the new and old server, they’re almost the same, but not exactly. The new server is missing 2 posts, 1 page and 3 tags.

    All comments and categories seem to have copied okay (the numbers on the old and new server exactly match).

    Is there anyway to easily identify exactly what content was missed or how to correct it?

    Both the new and old WordPress are the same version: 3.1.3. That said, the old installation has been around a long time and has gone though many, many upgrades – but things have always seemed to work fine.

    EDIT: No, I stand corrected, I think the posts have all gone across – the numbers are now matching, maybe I miss read them. Regardless, one page and the tags are still missing – and now I’m feeling uneasy that if the import missed those, other things may have been too.
