• I am trying to import my WP.com blog to my WP.org blog set up on my website. I’ve downloaded the https://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/move2/ files and have it running. I tried to import the WP.com file and I am getting and error message:

Unable to create directory /usr/local/apache/htdocs/ross-art.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2006/09. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

The import window says the file should be a “Upload your WordPress eXtended RSS (WXR)” file however it is a xml file that WP.com created.

    What am I doing wrong?

  • This links to a plugin you want that is capable of reading the (new) WXR file: https://www.technosailor.com/wordpress-to-wordpress-import/

It would also appear you may need to change permissions on /wp-content/uploads such that your server can write there.

Thanks for replying. The link you gave me was the correct one, I messed up and pasted the wrong link in my previous post.

I am looking for /wp-content/uploads but I cannot find it. Where would it be and what is a permission (can I say pretty please?) and how would I change it?

If it is the wp-content folder the only things in it are and index.php, a plugins folder, and a themes folder.

    I appreciate the help.

Well, let’s make wp-content writable by your server process then.

See if this article will help you Changing_File_Permissions
