    If you notice that you are uisng Theme My Login 6.4-alpha please, deactivate it and delete it (using the plugins screen) immediately. This is an ALPHA version, not for public release! I’m not evern sure how/why everybody is getting it.

    The current stable tag is 6.3.6. It is imperative that you delete the alpha version from the plugins screen so that it clears the version number from the database. Unforunately, you will also lose your settings – unless you are comfortable editing serialized data in the database and manually changing the stored version number.

    Strange issue indeed.

    Is there any chance you could build an uninstaller plugin for Theme My Login in order to force a proper and complete uninstall?

    For many of us, Theme My Login being active after updating is locking us out of the admin so we can only delete via FTP, hence leaving remnants in the db and making it impossible to reinstall without locking ourselves out again. It’s a vicious cycle.

    Otherwise, do you mind explaining how to manually delete out TML completely in order to reinstall? Don’t care about losing settings.

    Found a workaround.

    Had to go all the way back to version 6.1.4 (assuming because it’s absent of role handling for certain options), which allowed a proper deletion AND db data removal and I’m now able to get back on the latest stable 6.3.6.

    So, for all intents and purposes, 6.1.4 can be used as a pseudo-uninstaller for anyone that has TML db issues.

    Future reference, you can always just change the version number in the zip URL of any plugin/theme to get the download you’re looking for.

    And of course just look under the changelog or the developer’s page to see the actual version numbers:

    I still think delicate/advanced plugins of this nature need to have stand-alone uninstaller plugins. W3 Total Cache is another one.

    But, let’s be thankful programmers release (for free) such wonderful plugins in the first place!

    If you delete TML using the plugins dashboard, it uninstalls everything.

    But, you’re missing the paradox.

    With the newest versions of TML, either by human error, the accidental alpha update, a normal update causing a glitch or conflict with other plugin(s) that handle roles (my case) and any other number of reasons I’m sure, you can lock yourself out of the admin.

    Therefore, you can only FTP in and delete out the TML plugin folder before being able to get back into the admin, hence not being able to do a proper uninstall to clean out the db. Then when reactivate you’re only locking yourself out again.

    I’m pretty comfortable with MySql and I couldn’t figure out how to manually remove TML data from the db, so the novice (most users) definitely has no chance.

    I understand this may have been unprecedented in the past, that’s no longer the case. Something to look into.

    TML is an amazing plugin, probably in my top 5. But it’s also an advanced plugin with many moving parts.

    Why don’t you release a new version with the reverted code? I just updated and it screwed up a few things, not the end of the world but you couldn’t anymore issues be prevented with another release?

    There’s no way to discern whether a user intentionally locked out their role or it was caused by the bug.

    What does the cause have to do with anything, the end-result is the same?

    That’s like a doctor saying to an ER patient “Did you accidentally shoot yourself in the foot or did the gun have a faulty trigger?”

    Doesn’t make any difference, the fact of the matter is, someone has a bullet in their foot and they need help removing it.

    By all means, I’m not complaining or demanding anything of you. I’m using a free plugin (a wonderful plugin at that) at my own discretion and my website is my responsibility as is every other one of your users, though I’m sure they don’t all understand that.

    Believe me, I deal with free users and paying customers everyday and many of them think I owe them the world.

    I’m just reporting a problem for your information (trying to get you to understand the situation) and suggesting that a stand-alone uninstaller plugin would solve 90% of these “bullet in foot” problems, regardless of how the bullet got there.

    You have my report, suggestion and workaround (for others) as one of your users, whether you look into it further or do nothing at all is perfectly acceptable. That’s your prerogative, respectfully.

    @BryanHadaway: It matters because, again, somebody may have intentionally locked out the Administrator role, possibly because they have set up custom roles, with a role higher than it.

    However, I suppose it wouldn’t have hurt just to revert the setting anyway, forcing those users (if they exist) to manually enable the option.
