• Dear BackWPup user,

please give us your attention for this important announcement!
On May 7th, we released an update for BackWPup (3.6.9) as part of a security precaution of Dropbox. Please update the plugin and authenticate your Dropbox account again in the BackWPup settings. Otherwise, the connection of BackWPup to your Dropbox won’t work anymore.
Under the following link you will find a guide with all important steps to update your plugin: https://backwpup.com/docs/restore-dropbox-connection-backwpup-3-6-9-later/.

Note: The Dropbox backup folder changed from BackWPup to InpsydeBackWPup.

  • Hi, I use this plugin on multiple client sites – I really fail to understand why you had to change the dropbox folder name, it’s a real pain to have to re-authenticate each site. Also means the old backups now won’t get deleted as part of the process so will have to be removed manually to stop them filling up the space. Not ideal at all guys.
Also, unless you visit this page you have no idea this needs to happen – some sort of notification or headsup on the admin dashboard would have been nice.

    Hi @catr
I’m really sorry for the inconvenience. The changes to the Dropbox API and to the Dropbox folder have been part of the security precaution described above, unfortunately there was no other possibility. I totally understand that you are not happy with the work which needs to be done now by the users, but we take security issues very seriously.

We informed the users in the backend via our admin notice about the changes. But as it is dismissable, could be it didn’t show up for you. This is definitely something which needs to be improved in the future.

    Kind regards
    Christina

Every BackWPUp page keeps asking me consent to send you private data, which I won’t give. I have learned to tune out all BackWPUp pop-ups.
