The plugin we had been using for podcasting (series engine) on our site seemed to have some glitches and so we switched to powerpress.
When I imported the RSS feed, for some reason it also imported around 40 episodes of another podcast on our site.

I can’t delete those episodes’ posts because I don’t want them to vanish from that other podcast, but I don’t know how to remove them from this podcast.

    Anything I can do?
    (Thanks for your help)

    Hi mcconkster,

Once podcast episodes are imported into your site, there’s no way your site can affect the location they were imported from. Removing the posts for unwanted podcast episodes from your site should be fine, unless you imported from your own site back into your own site.

WordPress has a low-level built-in podcasting functionality where it’ll wrap direct links to media files within posts with enclosure tags. If you imported from a WordPress feed that contained posts like this, PowerPress saw those enclosure tags and assumed they were podcast episodes. If that’s what happened in this case, you’d need to manually remove the podcast episode information for each post you don’t want to show up within your podcast RSS feed.

To do that, edit a post, find the Podcast Episode box underneath the main blog-entry window. There should be an option to “remove podcast episode,” select that and update the post.

Thanks for getting back to me so quicky Shawn.

    I’m afraid this:
“unless you imported from your own site back into your own site.”
    is the issue.

Both podcasts were on our site, both built with a plugin called ‘series engine’ on our site, but I was just trying to switch it over to use powerpress instead- and so both podcasts will still be on our site.

I don’t know if that makes it impossible to solve? From what I’ve seen there’s no way to go in and edit the RSS feed and just delete the unwanted episodes?

    Thanks again,
    Dave

    Hi Dave,

There’s no way to manually edit the XML of a WordPress/PowerPress-generated feed. If a podcast feed has unwanted episodes, the only options are to remove the Podcast Episode attached to a Post containing an unwanted episode or delete the Post completely containing an unwanted episode and then empty the WordPress trash.

Are you publishing only one podcast feed thru your WordPress site using PowerPress? Or are you publishing more than one feed using PowerPress? If more than one feed, are you using Category Podcast, Custom Podcast Channels, or something else to manage the two different feeds?

Hi Shawn- just wanted to say thanks for your rapid responses.

I realised the other feed/plug-in did not generate ‘posts’ as appear on the WordPress menu, therefore the ‘posts’ containing the foreign episodes had been generated by powerpress in the process of the import.

So I was able to just delete all those posts, that removed them from my podcast, but had no affect on the original feed those episodes were imported from.

That’s pretty much what you told me in your first reply- I was just a bit confused about what a ‘post’ was and how it was tied (or wasn’t) to the other feed on our site. I guess I just needed some thinking time to catch up! ??

Thanks again for your help- massively appreciated.

    Hi Dave,

What is the URL of the podcast feed that contains the unwanted episodes?

    Hi Shawn,
I was able to delete all the unwanted ones, so problem has been solved- unless you wanted to check it for another reason?

Thanks again for all your help,
    Dave

    Hi Dave,

Thanks for the clarification. If everything looks good on your end, that’s great. Happy podcasting!
