We have approx. 60 different widgets in our multi-language (WPML) website with the JAVO directory theme installed. Everytime we add a new widget, we always export a .wie file via your plugin. Today, after translating a blog post and a page, all widgets are gone (!). We tried to import the .wie file but we receive error “You must upload a .wie file generated by this plugin.”.

File has been generated by this plugin and is not empty. We tried to deactivate and re-activate the WPML plugin (as seen in other support threads, but no luck).

    WP version 4.6.4
    Plugin version 1.4.5

    Hello,

    Thank you for the details.

Today, after translating a blog post and a page, all widgets are gone (!).

This is very likely unrelated to the import plugin. This sort of thing can happen if you rename a theme, switch themes, make a child theme, etc. Or, if a plugin that provides the widgets has been deactivated.

We tried to import the .wie file but we receive error “You must upload a .wie file generated by this plugin.”.

    Try these things:

    1. Your WordPress version is outdated. Update to the latest (4.7.3) in Dashboard > Updates then try again.

    2. Otherwise, try deactivating all plugins except Widget Importer & Exporter then see if the .wie file will be accepted. It’s possible another plugin is affecting which file types can be uploaded in WP.

    Hello,
I also faced this issue and finally solved it. I followed the reply of @stevengliebe and I like to add my experience.

At first, I tried his second suggestion:

    2. Otherwise, try deactivating all plugins except Widget Importer & Exporter then see if the .wie file will be accepted. It’s possible another plugin is affecting which file types can be uploaded in WP.

    Result: not solved.

    Then i tried this:

    1. Your WordPress version is outdated. Update to the latest (4.7.3) in Dashboard > Updates then try again.

    Result: SOLVED.

    Thank you Steven ??

Updating WP to latest version 4.7.3 solved the issue.

PS. it would be extremely helpful if the export included also the widget logic for each widget (which is of course inserted via other plugins, like Widget Logic etc.)

    Thank you Steven.
