Importer is stalled on step 2… I think

  • I am trying to import the XML file created from an export of another site. The file is about 16MB in size.

    The import process seems to go fine, I get a few errors on the screen, but nothing indicating a fatal problem, and then the process appears to stall. And by stall, I mean the page load indicator (swirly blue circle on Firefox) disappears and I’m left with words on the screen, but nothing indicating that the process is complete.

    What’s happening? Has WordPress gone out to lunch?

  • Hello jgold723,
    Test with a default theme such as twenty seventeen, and try disabling your 3rd party plugins.
    Also, you may be reaching a PHP limitation, such as exceeding the upload_max_filesize for example. Since there may be an error getting suppressed, I recommend enabling debugging as it will allow you to view all errors.
    You should then be able to increase your PHP settings within the php.ini file.
