importing Categories into Menu (parent and child) getting 505 internal server

    I recently updated my theme (“on demand” from press75) and have to redo my main menu at the top. However after also upgrading to WP 3.2.1 this process is different. When I add all of my categories (parent and child) to the menu, it makes them all “parent” categories, which first of all is a huge pain as I have about 250 categories to go through and reorganize. So first all, if there is a workaround where I do not have to do this that would be great. Secondly, after just going ahead and dealing with the workload of reorganizing all of my categories for the menu, I have started getting 505 internal server errors. Now I am not able to change the menu at all without getting that error. If I start a new menu i do not get this problem. It seems like it is struggling with so many categories. I have tried deavtivating all of pluggins and even switched to a different theme, but am still getting this error when dealing with the alrge number of categories in the menu. I have checked with godaddy (my host provider, and they say everything is working fine. I am using a shared linux host.
