• Hi…I am new and didnt see this posted

I am a blogger person. I recently converted to blogger beta to try out their ‘labels’…found out that doesnt work right and now am here

I have succesfully installed WP onto a new domain and tried the import feature. but it wont log into my blogger account

I suspect it has to do with bloggerbeta which now uses gmail account as login and you login at a dif address

am I SOL or will the import feature work with the new blogger?

  • …another Blogger beta refugee here. Just switched it yesterday darnit, then got motivated to do my long anticipated move to WordPress. I like it so far, very clean and simple. My only issue is that I haven’t enabled my RSS feed on the new Blogger beta and they use ATOM feed (which as you say Otto42 will be easier for WordPress to devise an import for but we don’t have the genius to do it yet!) My question is though – has anyone successfully converted the atom feed back to RSS and then uploaded the XML properly into WordPress. I’m hearing success stories but just want to be 100% sure before I try it and get frustrated halfway through. Could someone please list some instructions for this??? ?? It looks like it might help A LOT more people soon…

Also – would like to know, when we import the RSS into WordPress, does it archive it by date, etc? What does it look like when imported? Anyone have an example to show me? I know Anorling said we can’t get the comments but am ok with not having my comments imported.

Thanks for the tip otto, its a great and simple way of importing posts. However, it doesnt import comments at the same time though, so my blog isnt quite complete.

I’ve been trying out justinbaeder’s method of using webbleyou .com. Its cumbersome, but I’ve been able to import both posts and comments. The only challenge for me now is to export the new database to the main blog.

Its too complicated for someone with zero programming and database knowledge.

Helenism, if all you want is RSS, blogger can give you that:

    https://address.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss

Any way to import the comments. I have been able to do the import of the posts via the RSS feed described earlier, but would hate to lose all the comments

I wrote a simple script to import posts and comments..

    https://www.romantika.name/v2/2006/12/19/import-blogger-beta-to-wordpress/

That worked perfect for me, adywarna. I had to delete one post (got stuck on a comment or something) but everything else worked out great. Any tips or hints on changing the permalinks in blogger to wordpress?

I’m using a wordpress.com-hosted blog, so I assume I can’t use adywarna’s script. Can’t make the RSS method work either. Any news on when an updated import tool might be available?

    JaneLitte,

I am working on a new version of the importer, perhaps as a plugin, and by referring to https://justinsomnia.org/2006/10/maintain-permalinks-moving-from-blogger-to-wordpress/ it should be possible. I just hope it’ll still work with WordPress 2.1

I can’t promise when it’ll be finished as I am very busy right now.

John you’re right you can’t upload the script to wordpress.com – I’ve been told off at wordpress.com forum for posting a note about this importer there ?? my mistake. I am working on the haloscan import as well.

Hi. I’ve been trying to do the rss feed option, but it doesn’t work for me. The blog I’m trying to import is not a yourblog.blogspot.com its on ftp publishing. Also on a different blog i only get the atom.xml feed.

Any tips or suggestions? I feel kind of like a salamander right now…can’t quite walk, can’t quite swim.

I’d like to heartily recommend Ady’s plugin; it seems really well put-together, and I think that most people will find that it’s exactly what they’re looking for.

I’m running into a problem, though, because of an odd idiosyncrisy of the blog I’m trying to import. Maybe someone here can make some suggestions about how I can work around it. What it boils down to is that the Post Title is linked differently in the RSS feed and in the actual post.

First of all, the blog is a metablog; the format is that each post shows an excerpt from a post or article of interest elsewhere and then provides a link to the original.

In the posts on Blogspot, this link is the Post Title. In short, the Post Title, instead of being an internal permalink, is an external link. In the feed, it’s a regular permalink. Thus, what I wind up with is a bunch of posts with excerpts with no reference back to the original. It’s as though someone had scissored the endnotes out of a reference work.

I’ve been able to figure out that the layout feature responsible for this is that the template has been set up so that the contents of the “Link Field” are wrapped around the Post Title. Unfortunately, the help file for this feature seems to have been written for the Old Blogger. Any idea how I could map these links and tranfer them, or does anyone know how to change that template feature in the New Blogger lingo?
