• I used the export / import tool built into WP to export from one online site to a local disk based site on my laptop. I used the plugin: “WordPress Importer” to do the deed.

The import was successful; I can see all the pages and such from the source but they do not display as the default “Site” in the target. All I have in the target is the default theme that came with WP.

I am using this local WP setup in conjunction with MAMP and Dreamweaver on a Windows 10 Laptop (Yes, Windows 10… Still not sure if I like that part…)

All I need is some guidance on what I obviously did wrong.

  • So the site redirects to the old URL?

    That can be changed https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Changing_The_Site_URL

    Excellent…

    This immediately makes a difference.

Unfortunately, it brings up another question…

How can I tell where the import tool puts the imported files?

Leaving these settings at the default keeps the default site, so it is not there that I need to point to.

When I start the import process again, and hover over the import button, it displays a url that seems to point to the WP-Admin folder. However, when I set my path to that, I got the admin page as my site.

The thing I’m confused about is that the import process imported the pages correctly enough so that all the imported pages are in the default sites page list, but not correctly enough to show any of the pages…
