• I’ve been trying to import an XML file from squarespace into wordpress but having issues. SquareSpace offers a “export to wordpress format” function which appears to work. All of my Posts, Categories, tags, user data appear. However only half of my attachemtns are downloaded. I have roughly 350 pictures on my squarespace site, when imported to wordpress only 153 are downloaded when clicking the “Download attachements” checkbox in the importer. I’ve scanned the XML file to compare one of the images that did download to one that did not but I couldn’t find an identifiable trend.

Has anyone else had issues with this? It almost seems to have something to do with the file names. Most of the files that were downloaded are named “img-1.jpg, img-2.jpg , and so on” the images that wernt downloaded had manual file names entered… However after I deleted the manual file names they still do not import.

Try accessing your server via SFTP, FTP, or a file manager in your hosting provider’s control panel first. Go to /wp-content/uploads/ and just make absolutely sure the images weren’t uploaded.

It’s entirely possible that they were uploaded and just not added to the Media library. The Media library is more like a catalog stored in the database than a straight file viewer, it’s possible for files to be in the proper uploads directory and *not* appear in the Media library.
