I’m looking to bulk import a large number of new users to a client’s website, and we would like them to be subscribed to only one specific post category email. Is there any way to add a field to the user list CSV to specify this, or some setting we can check or uncheck to get this to work?

I initially thought we could change the settings to make that category compulsory for all users during the import, but that would add this category’s emails to add users, and unchecking it would then remove it from everyone’s, including the new users, correct?

Any solution would be a great help. Thanks.

Provided your improvement process triggers the WordPress core actions you can make use of the Auto-Subscribe features.

To get all new users subscribed to one category set the ‘Subscribe new users registering with your blog’ option to Automatically, set the ‘Auto-subscribe includes any excluded categories’ option to No, and temporarily exclude all categories except the one you want the new users subscribed to. You may also want to look over the other Auto-subscribe settings and perhaps change the default email type for example.

    This worked perfectly. Thank you!
