• Hi there,

I’m thinking about moving my blog, which is currently hosted by a relatively small blogging platform, to WordPress.

The thing is, I have no idea how to import all the posts I’ve written so far (and there are hundreds of them!). I’ve checked the Import tab under the Tools menu in the WP Dashboard and obviouly my humble blogging platform is not there.

Here’s some data that I think may come handy:

    Current blog URL: https://www.chicageek.com
    Current blogging platform: https://www.obolog.com
    Blogging system: Metaweblog API

I’ve opened a testing blog on wordpress.com to test any importing plug-ins, tools or anything you can recommend me, but the original plan is to host a full WP installation in my own personal hosting as soon as the importing issue is resolved.

Could anyone please help me? If you need more info, just ask ??

    Thanks a lot!!

  • Hi

You can probably import from an RSS feed if you are able to get all of your existing posts exported at once in the RSS format. Actually it would be even better if you could export them in smaller segments (like a category or tag). The more segments you can break it into the higher your liklihood of success – WP or PHP can choke on files that are too large.
First step is see if that is possible.

    then, from
    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Importing_Content#Importing_from_an_RSS_feed

First, save the RSS feed you wish to import someplace on your local machine. This would be the source and would come from the site that has the content you wish to import into your WP blog. A simple way to get the feed into a text file is to find the RSS link for that site, click it and view it in your browser, then copy/paste that to a text file. Or, of course, use your preferred tools.

Click the “Browse” button and navigate to the file containing the feed you wish to import and click “Import” to let it run.

Note: Depending on the feed and format, you may not get the entire thing loaded on the first attempt. One option is to determine how much got imported (Manage -> Posts) and remove those sections from your saved RSS file and then re-import. Lather, rinse, repeat as necessary.

Note that newlines will be converted to
. Therefore be sure there is no newlines between any <p>..</p>s.
