Importing wordpress 2.7 and says Invalid File

  • I exported my XML file from wordpress so I can get a few posts from the xml so I can import the post to another wordpress site. When I import the xml file on worpress 2.7 its says

    WordPress, it says:

    Invalid File
    Please upload a valid WXR (WordPress eXtended RSS) export file.

    I tried to import a few items from 2.5 to 2.7 it says Invalid File
    and I tried testing from 2.7 to 2.7 the same results happen again.

    Why can’t I import in 2.7? but I can import on older wordpress versions.

    Please Help

  • Hum… I can’t reproduce this problem.

    I just tried from a 2.3 export to 2.7 and everything works well… I also tried from 2.7 to 2.7 and all is OK.

    Could you describe the step-by-step process you made to produce the export file and to import it in 2.7 ?

    I took a few posts from the export xml file from my site which is wordpress version 2.5. I copied and pasted the post I needed for my other site which is version 2.7 and save as .xml file.

    Then I click import on my wordpress site and click upload
    and it shows “Invalid File
    Please upload a valid WXR (WordPress eXtended RSS) export file.”

    The file format is .xml

    My file basically shows
    <item>
    <title>Blah Blah</title>
    <link>https://example.com/?p=4037</link&gt;
    <Blah Blah
    </item>
    I am trying to importing few items to the new wordpress version

    I would guess that the problem is when you cut and paste some items to another file and save it to an .xml…

    If you just keep <items>, it wont works. I just reproduced this problem and I got the error message…

    You need all the headers generated by wordpress in the export file… XML version, RSS version, Channel information… etc.

    And the file should end with :

    </channel>
</rss>

    Thanks that did the trick. I didn’t have the header generated by wordpress on it I only had the items tags.
