Importing WordPress Fatal Error

Trying to host my WordPress blog locally (lost my job because of it so don’t want it on the Web but would like to be able to play with it for myself) and in trying to import my WordPress 818KB XML export file (from the old blog), I get a fatal error.

“Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 10 bytes) in C:\wamp\www\ahm\wp-admin\import\wordpress.php on line 88″

I increased the max file and post size to 750MB in the PHP.ini file but still having the problem. I’m not getting any help from WAMP and wondered if someone here might have any suggestions.
