Importing WP 2.7 posts into WP 3.8.1

  • Hi,

    I’m trying to figure out how to import my old blog posts from WP 2.7 version database into a latest installation of WP 3.8.1

    The problem is i have only the old database backup (sql /gz) from WP 2.7 and don’t have the WXR (xml) file to do the import.

    Would be of great help if someone can guide me to a solution.

    1. If i restore the old database of version 2.7, will it break the latest version installation?
    2. Any way to generate WXR (xml) file from the old database file (sorry, lost the WP 2.7 installation online)
    3. Any other way to restore the old posts?

    – The database structure often changes between versions. The implication is that, for example, one cannot import a pre 3x database into a 3x install and expect it to work.

    You may want to consider installing your original version of WordPress, import your db dump and then start upgrading.
