Importing .wpress file Hangs

Whenever I attempt to import a .wpress file I have exported from my development site, the import hangs on a different % completed. Sometimes this is as low as 3%, other times it is as high as 65%.
Nothing changes on the website, so I don’t believe it’s just the page not refreshing and the process continuing in the background.
