• Since i upgraded to latest iteration of WordPress, I have tried 2 different xml files for different themes to import, when it should map the data to the database and allocate it to a user, instead it over writes all my posts categories and pages.

I am using the wordpress import tool.

Imports have never down this before, why now, am I doing something wrong, can anyone help.

  • That seems bizarre. Have you tried disabling any custom themes and plugins, then trying to import the XML file? I wonder if there’s some plugin (or theme function) that might be interfering with the import.

You are right, found it, I think, a remnant of a yootheme i tried out years ago, called balance, left a widget plugin hidden away, that i had never even noticed.

Each time i Imported it tried to create the balance theme again, which I couldn’t remember using, and renamed my site Balance. As well as importing everything form the xml file and overwriting my Db: posts categories, pages etc.

My fear now is that is not the only thing, and that some other Yoo crap is hiding out.

Hmmm. Might be best off starting with a fresh WordPress install and carefully importing things that you’ve tested in a test environment and known to work without issue.
