Ok so i have a wp site hosted by godaddy. I built out the wp site and could not get the page to function. everytime i would go to the www. it would say under maintenance. I called godaddy and they said that i had created another subfolder for WP and that it would not function until i moved in under the http.docs folder in root directories. So I copied the WP folder and pasted it to http.docs folder. Now I cant even get back to the WP dashboard and I have no clue where to begin. I am a novice and any help would be appreciated. Thank you very much.

  • orthotech138, it’s not as simple as just copying the files. WP has a database that controls things, and if the database is still pointing to the old location, it doesn’t know where to find what it needs.

In short, what you’d really need to do is install something like Updraft Plus Backup, with the Migrate addon. Then, you’d just need to backup your site, reinstall a basic copy of WP, add the plugin to that site, copy the files you backed up, and restore, specifying you’d want the plugin to change any links it found.

OR…you could do it manually by following the instructions at https://www.wpexplorer.com/migrating-wordpress-website/
