How can I improve the appearance of the product category list block?

Hi @wotan6891 this is not something provided by the Gutenberg plugin, if you are using WooCommerce block you can reach out to them on the forum below:

However, if you want to add CSS code you can add it to the Additional CSS section in the site editor.

To access the additional CSS section open Global Styles in Appearance > Editor then click on 3-Dots that appear on the top-right. You will then see the option to access the Additional CSS section for your site.

Could you recommend an article that shows how to put custom css in block themes.

there where you show me where to put the css, I already put it and it didn’t work for me.

In the classic theme customizer it worked perfectly.
