I administer a WordPress website (version 3.8) where we’ve recently started using the Yoast plug-in for SEO (version 1.4.22).

I have optimized several pages as much as I possibly can using your color-coded suggestions, but I still show a “Poor” rating. Is there anything else I can do or am I missing something?

  • If you follow all of the suggestions in the Page Analysis tab, you should be raising your score. Is it possible that you are under the 300 word recommendation or not using your keyword often enough? This dramatically decreases your score.

Thanks for the comments. I realize that on some of our pages, this is probably an issue, but due to the very specific nature of the content on those pages, I really can’t keep repeating the keywords without it looking silly.

Some of the things that confuse me are suggestions about Heading 1; not having a Heading 2, etc.

Well, what I typically do is have at least one heading 3 styled title in my post that contains my keyword. This usually increases my score. Also, if you include images in your post, be sure to have your keyword in the Alt tag. This also improves your score.

    Thanks. I will try that.
