• There are many reasons one might have to sort through media files in the Media Library to make changes. A primary example would be deleting unused files, including duplicates. However, there is no current way to look up unused media files across all posts, pages, or featured images. One can sort “Unattached” media, but unless the file was uploaded directly in a given post, it won’t show as “Attached”. This creates a real problem for those who batch upload images. It’s possible to create a category for every batch media upload, but that still does not attach the file and it’s not possible to organize the media library list by category. There are some media library cleaner plug-ins, but they can be limited by page builders.

It would be very helpful if the media library was given some organizational upgrades. The option to create folders would be amazing. It would help to be able to see all relevant media information in the List view of the Media Library. Information such as where a file is being used, whether or not it is a feature image, along with basics like file name, type, size, category, date, etc. Another helpful tool would be to have this information available when editing a media file within a post. This would be particularly helpful for differentiating between which duplicate or version is being used in a post.

I hope upgrades to Media Library are in the works.
