• Hello, I have been facing difficulties customizing my website, given that the customization page loads but remains blank. Upon contacting my website host support, I was made to understand that the issue resulted from WordPress 6.0.1. Upon reverting to a later version, the issue was resolved.

Could someone help me out in resolving this issue, so that I can update my WordPress to the latest version?

    Thanks in advance.

    Cordially,
    Ndashi

  • I have seen this happen with people who’s web space at their host is full so the update can’t fully complete and it corrupts files.
So, check if you still have webspace left and re-install WP via the updates page. There should be a button to reinstall WP there.

Besides that, do you have certain plugins like page builders running?

    Hello @nekojonez

Thank you for the prompt response. As for webspace, I am at 30G free space. Maybe I should try and free more?

For the case of plugins, Yes I do have SiteOrigin page builder. Could it be a cause of the issue?

Nonetheless, I will try freeing more space by deleting old backups and get back to you for feedback.

Please keep an eye on this and I pray that you give me the necessary assistance.

30GB is MORE then enough my friend. That’s almost enough to install 3 small additional WP subsites. So no need to free up more space my man.

I’d disable SiteOrigin Page Builder and any caching/optimizing plugins one by one and checking if the problem is resolved then. It may be a bug in one of those type of plugins.

Edit: if disabling a plugin resolved the issue, it’s best to open a support thread on said plugin’s forums and explain your issue there. The devs of said plugin can aid you further and maybe you found a bug that they can fix.

Okay. Thanks a million for the prompt assistance.

Just so it may help to have a better view of the issue, find below, an excerpt of the last email from my host’s support after they investigated the issue:

“We’re happy to let you know that the issue has been resolved. Unfortunately, it was triggered by the incompatibility of the website’s setup with WordPress 6.0.1 core files so we had to revert the WordPress version to 5.9.1. Everything is up and running for us (see the attachments below).

In addition, we have turned the plugins back on.

To our deepest regret, we have to inform you that we cannot guarantee proper work of the website if the WordPress would be updated to newer versions. We perfectly understand your concern and value you as our customer, and we realize that finding an urgent solution to this issue is very important for you, but unfortunately, as a web hosting-oriented company, questions concerning code-debugging, web-development or optimization are out of our support scope.”

That sounds like it’s SiteOrigin’s page builder, which has done exactly that (blank screen) before. IIRC it happened in WP 5.6 so that is, most likely, the issue.

Make sure you’ve updated all your plugins to the latest version, and reach out to SiteOrigin as well. https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/siteorigin-panels/ says they updated two days ago and I see a couple other similar posts in https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/siteorigin-panels/

    Hello @ipstenu
    Hello @nekojonez

I have tried all the suggestions, yet no way out. I’m really stuck here and fear the worse if at some point it gets my website witnessing some downtimes.

Issue persists even after deactivating all the plugins and changing the theme.

So, without any plugins and the default theme… You still have these issues and have downtime? Am I understanding you correctly?

    (@ncndashi)

@nekojonez Yes, you got me right.

    This is what I did:

First, I deactivated all the plugins, except for SiteOrin Page Builder. Then change the theme while testing every time the theme was changed (twenty fifteen, nineteen, twenty, twenty-one, and twenty-two).

Next, I deactivated all the plugins and did the test without any active plugins, while changing the theme.

All these didn’t resolve the issue.

I must say that the issue got resolved temporarily when the WordPress was reverted to a later version (5.9.1) and reoccurred once it was updated to the current version (6.0.1).

I think you have to talk to your host about that… Since, a clean WP install shouldn’t have downtime.
